Smart Tech Energy Solutions engaged with representatives of the North West University to assess the institution’s energy consumption profile and discuss their objectives of reducing grid dependency and operational energy costs. Through collaborative consultations, an optimal grid-tied solar solution was designed to integrate seamlessly with the university’s existing infrastructure. Upon completion, the university expressed satisfaction with the quality, efficiency, and professionalism demonstrated throughout the project’s execution.

project overview

North West University

This project involved the design, supply, and installation of a large-scale grid-tied solar PV system at the North West University campus. The system was implemented using a custom-engineered solar carport structure, enabling dual functionality — providing shaded parking facilities while simultaneously generating renewable energy.

The installation forms part of the university’s broader sustainability and carbon reduction initiative, aimed at advancing cleaner energy adoption within its operational environment.

Project Description

The North West University Solar Carport Project comprises a 376.2 kWp solar photovoltaic array, integrated with four (4) x 110 kW inverters to manage power conversion and synchronisation with the grid. The system is mounted on purpose-built steel carport structures, strategically positioned to optimise solar generation while serving as covered parking for university staff and students.

As a grid-tied solution, the installation offsets a significant portion of the university’s daily energy demand, reducing reliance on the national grid and contributing to long-term energy cost savings. The project stands as a testament to Smart Tech Energy Solutions’ ability to deliver complex, high-performance renewable energy systems within institutional environments.
